President's Message

Dear Greater Richmond Association for Commercial Real Estate Members and Friends;

Unlike many organizations, in 2011 GRACRE added new members. As of December 31, 2011, GRACRE had 327 members, the largest number of members in GRACRE's history. As a result, GRACRE continues to be Richmond's largest and most diverse commercial real estate organization whose primary purpose is to promote commercial real estate business in the Richmond metropolitan area. 2011 proved to be another up and down year, with significant highs and lows in the commercial real estate business. The year started off with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing at 11,670.75 on January 3, 2011. An economic expansion cycle continued through July. However, in late July the stock market took a steep downturn. Both the economy and the commercial real estate industry stalled. Things did not look particularly rosy until an expansion cycle began in October. The economy finished 2011 strong, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished 2011 closing at 12,217.56 on December 30, 2011.

Rest assured that our Board of Directors will work to improve our events and organization. GRACRE will bring its members and prospective members relevant business programs and networking opportunities. Politics will be on everyone's mind this year, and GRACRE will strive to make sure its members' thoughts and opinions are represented and heard during this key election year. GRACRE has evolved into much more than a networking organization. In 2012, you will see our business organization speak with a loud and clear voice to our government regarding policies, legislation and programs which impact the commercial real estate business at both the state and local levels.

The secret to GRACRE's success lies in lively and committed members. I encourage each of you to reach out to our committee chairs and ask what you can do to help GRACRE in promoting commercial real estate business in our community.
