Legislative Follow Up - Homestead Exemption

Homestead Exemption

Just a quick note to let you know we had a good success today in the House Privileges and Elections Subcommittee. We were able to defeat the proposed House version of the Homestead Exemption (HJR 686 – Brink). I spoke against the amendment along with the Virginia Chamber and the Apartment and Office Building Association. To show how far we have come in educating members on the problems with this proposal, the amendment died without even a second to the motion! The same amendment has been introduced in the Senate (SJR 333-Whipple) but this was certainly a good start and gives us a good bulkhead should the issue get any life in the Senate. Please let your Senators know you oppose SJR 333.
